Eileen Ryan (born Eileen Annucci), an American actress and widow of actor and director Leo Penn, and the mother of actors Sean Penn, Chris Penn, and singer Michael Penn has died at age 94, a few days to her 95th birthday.

The legendary actress, who appeared in over 60 television shows and films over her decades-long career, was mother to actor Sean Penn, musician Michael Penn, and late actor Chris Penn, who died in 2006 at age 40.

She appeared with her sons Sean and Chris in the 1986 film At Close Range, portraying the brothers’ grandmother.

She also made an appearance in The Crossing Guard, which Sean directed. On Broadway, she portrayed Evie in Sing Till Tomorrow (1953) and Lorraine in Comes a Day (1958).
Eileen married actor and director Leo Penn in 1957. They stayed married until Leo’s death in 1998.
Eileen’s first TV appearance came several years before she tied the knot, when she appeared on drama series Goodyear Television Playhouse in 1955.
