Russ Francis’ father, Edmund Charles “Ed” Francis, was a pro wrestler and wrestling promoter in the 1960s.

Ed also played football in the NFL for 13 seasons. During his time with the San Francisco 49ers, he won a Super Bowl.
Ed passed away on November 18, 2016, at age 90.

He had played as a tight end for the New England Patriots, and the San Francisco 49ers.

During his career, Francis won three pro bowls. He had played in 167 games and ended his career with a record of “393 receptions for 5,262 yards and 40 touchdowns.”

After retiring from the game of football, Francis ventured into the media industry and began hosting “The Russ Francis Radio Show, and later “Forever West Outdoors on 1400 AM KODI.”
In 2000, Francis tried his hands on politics by running for Hawaii’s 2nd congressional district as a Republican, but couldn’t win the election.
The super Bowl champion was “inducted into the Oregon Sports Hall of Fame, and the Polynesian Football Hall of Fame” before his demise.
Francis passed away in a plane crash, on October 1, 2023, He was aged 70.
