Edward Joseph Flanagan was an American football centre who played in the National Football League (NFL).

Ed Flanagan passed away on May 10 at the age of 79 after being hospitalized in Altoona with heart problems on May 8, 2023.

Ed Flanagan was a Purdue Boilermaker in college before going on to play in the NFL for the Detroit Lions from 1965 to 1974 and the San Diego Chargers from 1975 to 1976.

Ed retired after two seasons with the San Diego Chargers. Flanagan has only missed one start in his 165-game career.

Ed Flanagan was chosen for four Pro Bowls. Flanagan was hired as the offensive line coach for the US Football League’s Oakland Invaders in 1984.

He was hired as the line coach for the Arena Football League’s Arizona Rattlers in 1985.  As of 2013, he was an assistant coach with the Cedar Rapids Titans of the Indoor Football League.
