“We are very sorry to hear that Eclair Surf lost his struggle this morning after suffering a serious head injury in yesterday’s Grand National. He was looked for by a team of first-class vets at the racecourse before being transferred to Liverpool University, where he was treated all night, but sadly it was not to be.”

“He was a truly unique horse that was adored by all, and he will be greatly missed.”

Eclair Surf was a late entry into the race on Thursday but was heavily favoured by the public.
In January, he won the Classic Chase in Warwick and finished second at the Eider Chase in Newcastle.
