The Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo) and the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) have announced a three-week period of load management.

In a joint statement issued on Thursday, June 13, ECG and GRIDCo explained that this measure is necessary due to ongoing maintenance work by a gas supplier in Nigeria.

This maintenance is projected to last for three weeks and has caused a reduction in overall power generation capacity in Ghana.

“The maintenance has caused a reduction in overall power generation capacity in Ghana which could result in load management over the period of the work,” the joint release indicated.

The statement further clarified that the recent power supply interruptions experienced in parts of the country are due to a decrease in gas supply from Nigeria since June 12, 2024.

While apologising for the inconvenience, ECG and GRIDCo assured the public that they are collaborating with other stakeholders in the power value chain to optimise available resources and ensure minimal impact of the gas supply reduction on consumers.
