Earnie Shavers who was known as one of boxing’s hardest punchers during his long career passed away on September 1, 2022.  His cause of death has not been made known.

He fought for the heavyweight title against Muhammad Ali and Larry Holmes, losing to Ali in a 15-round decision in 1977 at Madison Square Garden. It was a close decision, and Ali needed a strong final round to win.

His most notable victory came in March 1979, when he knocked out Ken Norton in the first round at the Las Vegas Hilton. He also defeated former heavyweight champion Jimmy Ellis and the highly touted Jimmy Young.
