Carroll made her debut appearance on tv in 1965 on To Tell The Truth. Her first piece Ask E. Jean appeared in Elle in 1993, and she continued to write for the magazine until 2020. It was very popular and known for Carroll’s opinions on sex, and her insistence that women should never structure their lives around men.
However, her writing style was considered by many as ‘quirky, cheeky, and irreverent.’ She was sacked from Elle in February 2020. According to her, she was dismissed because of her rape accusations toward former US President Trump, however, Elle shared that the decision to fire her was strictly business.
