Drederick Rubin Irving is an American former professional basketball player and the father of Kyrie Irving, an American professional basketball player for the Brooklyn Nets of the National Basketball Association (NBA)

Drederick spent two seasons in the Australian National Basketball League. He was born on January 11, 1966.

Drederick Irving, a native of New York City, attended Stevenson High School in The Bronx, where he played basketball, before going on to play for Boston College in college.

Irving supported the Terriers’ journey to the North Atlantic Conference Championship game each of his four years.

In 1988, the team won the NAC title, the school received its third NCAA Tournament invitation, and Irving surpassed John Wooden as the school’s all-time top scorer with 1,931 points.

Irving was invited to join the Boston Celtics training camp roster after earning a degree in economics at BU, but he was unable to do so.

Irving joined the South East Australian Basketball League’s Bulleen Boomers in 1992.

During his time with the Boomers in 1992, Irving dominated the league by averaging 30 points per contest.
