Dr. Seuss Net Worth At Time Of Death

Dr. Seuss had an estimated net worth of $75 million at the time of his death. The legend accrued this wealth through his career as a writer, cartoonist, film producer, Songwriter, Illustrator and poet.

Dr. Seuss was highly recognised for writing and illustrating over 60 books, including some of the most famous children’s books such as If I Ran the Zoo, The Cat in the Hat, Green Eggs and Ham, and The Lorax. Additionally, Seuss wrote the 1953 musical fantasy film “The 5,000 Fingers of Dr. T.”

Born March 2, 1904, Geisel graduated from Dartmouth College in 1925. After graduating from Dartmouth, Seuss enrolled at Lincoln College, Oxford to pursue a doctoral degree in English literature, however, he left Oxford in 1927 to start his career as an illustrator and cartoonist for Vanity Fair, Life and various other publications.

He published his first children’s book And to Think That I Saw It on Mulberry Street in 1937.

Amid World War II, Geisel took a break from children’s literature to illustrate political cartoons, and he also worked in the animation and film department of the United States Army where he wrote, produced, or animated many productions including Design for Death, which subsequently won the 1947 Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature Film.

Following the war, Geisel returned to writing children’s books.

His published books have spawned several adaptations, including 11 television specials, five feature films, a Broadway musical, and four television series.

Geisel won the Lewis Carroll Shelf Award in 1958 for Horton Hatches the Egg and in 1961 for And to Think That I Saw It on Mulberry Street. He received the Regina Medal award from the Catholic Library Association in 1982. His birthday has been officially recognized as National Read Across America Day. He also received two Primetime Emmy Awards for Outstanding Children’s Special for Halloween Is Grinch Night (1978) and Outstanding Animated Program for The Grinch Grinches the Cat in the Hat (1982).

In 2008, Dr. Seuss was inducted into the California Hall of Fame. He was also honored with a Google Doodle on March 2, 2009 in celebration of his 105th birthday.

Dr. Seuss died of cancer on September 24, 1991, at age 87 at his home in the La Jolla community of San Diego.
