Chuck Wright, Topeka’s mayor from 1965 to 1969, had a son named Wright. For leading Topeka through the aftermath of the 1966 tornado, Chuck Wright is most recognized.

Following his graduation from Washburn University School of Law, Doug Wright worked as the city attorney in Topeka before being elected mayor at the age of 34, when the city was run by a city commission.

Wright was re-elected mayor in 1985, the year the nation’s capital adopted a new system of governance that included a city council. Then, in 1989, Harry W. “Butch” Felker defeated him in the mayoral election.

Douglas S. Wright cause of death: What happened to the former Topeka mayor?

The City of Topeka has confirmed that former mayor Doug Wright has passed away. Topeka Police officers responded to a report of a deceased person around 4:30 p.m. and later identified the deceased as Wright. They believe Wright, who was 75, died of natural causes. The city sent its condolences to Wright’s loved ones. Wright served as mayor of the city from 1983 to 1989, 20 years after his father Chuck Wright held the position.
