Kathryn Helgaas is widely known as the wife of Doug Burgum.

Kathryn is the First Lady of North Dakota following her husband’s position as the 33rd Governor of North Dakota.
She attended Jamestown High School where she was involved in student council, choir, varsity tennis, and cheerleading.
Kathryn earned a Bachelor of Science in Retail Management from Arizona State University in 1985.

Following her Bachelor’s degree, Kathryn enrolled at the University of North Texas in 1986 and graduated in 1989 with a Master’s of Business Administration in Human Resources.

As First Lady, Kathryn’s priority is supporting and developing initiatives to eliminate the shame and stigma of the chronic disease of addiction in North Dakota’s communities.
Also, Kathryn has devoted her time and leadership to many charitable endeavors including at-risk women and children, animal welfare, visionary artists and the arts, and addiction and recovery.
She married Doug Burgum in 2016 and has since been together but the pair does not have kids together.
