He then earned his Master of Business Administration (MBA) at Stanford University Graduate School of Business in 1980.
After his masters, Burgum served as a consultant at McKinsey & Company from September 1980 to March 1983.
Burgum also worked as the Chairman and CEO of Great Plains Software (1983 to 2001), Small Business and Labor Advisory Council for Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis (1990 to 1992), and Senior Vice President at Microsoft (2001 to 2007).
Burgum is set to compete as a candidate in the 2024 United States presidential election.
