Don Sundquist: 47th Governor of Tennessee dies at 86

Donald Kenneth Sundquist was an American businessman and politician who served as the 47th Governor of Tennessee from 1995 to 2003.

Prior to becoming governor, he served Tennessee’s 7th congressional district in the United States House of Representatives from 1983 to 1995. He was a member of the Republican Party.

Sundquist was named chair of a national council to improve Medicaid in July 2005. HHS Secretary Michael Leavitt appoints the panel. In 2008, he served as the state vice-chair of John McCain’s presidential campaign team.

Sundquist left office to become a lobbyist for the firm he co-founded, Sundquist Anthony, now known as the Sundquist Group.

Don Sundquist: 47th Governor of Tennessee dies at 86

Former Tennessee Governor Don Sundquist was surrounded by his family when he passed at Baptist Memorial Hospital in East Memphis overnight.

Sundquist, who was 86 years old, and his wife Martha quietly moved back to the Memphis area to The Farms at Baily Station in Collierville 18 months ago.
