Don McKenney Cause of Death

Don McKenney, a former Bruins captain, died in Ontario on December 18, 2022, at the age of 88. His cause of death was not given.

McKenney made his Bruins debut in 1954 and went on to tie Leo Labine for the team lead in scoring that season with 42 points (22 goals, 20 assists), while finishing second in Rookie of the Year voting.

He scored 20 or more goals in seven of his nine seasons with the club, including a career-high 32 in 1958-59.

McKenney set a career high with 69 points and led the league with 49 assists the following season, earning him a spot on the NHL’s Third All-Star Team.

McKenney, a well-liked defensive forward, won the Lady Byng Trophy for Most Gentlemanly Player in 1959-60 and finished in the top four of the voting for six straight seasons from 1956 to 1962.

McKenney had 237 goals, 345 assists, and 582 points in 798 games over 13 NHL seasons.

Following his playing career, McKenney joined Flaman’s staff as an assistant coach for the Northeastern University men’s hockey team, where he remained for nearly two decades before being promoted to head coach in 1989-91.
