Don Cheadle is an American actor who was born in Kansas City, Missouri, to teacher Bettye Cheadle and clinical psychologist Donald Frank Cheadle Sr.

He has a sister named Cindy and a brother named Colin. Throughout his childhood, his family moved from city to city.
From 1970 to 1974, he attended Hartley Elementary School in Lincoln, Nebraska. Cheadle graduated from East High School in Denver, Colorado in 1982.
He was a member of the jazz band in high school, sang in choirs, and was involved in the theatre department, performing in musicals, plays, and mime shows.

Don Cheadle’s global recognition grew with his role as James “Rhodey” Rhodes / War Machine in the Marvel Cinematic Universe beginning with Iron Man 2 (2010), replacing Terrence Howard. As part of the franchise, he will direct the film Armor Wars.
Don Cheadle has collaborated with the UN on climate change issues. He and Harrison Ford co-created Years of Living Dangerously, a documentary event series that provided first-hand reports on those affected by and seeking solutions to climate change.
