After suffering a brain tumor, Don Browne, who served as president of Telemundo Communications Group from 2005 to 2009, passed away on August 29 at his Miami Beach home. He was 80.

The expansion of Telemundo’s original content creation was directed by Browne. Under his leadership, a deal with Televisa in Mexico was made to distribute Telemundo material there, and the company saw record-breaking ratings.

Prior to overseeing Telemundo in Miami, Browne served as president and general manager of Miami-based NBC station WTVJ-TV. Prior to joining WTVJ, Browne worked in New York from 1991 to 1993 as executive vice president of NBC News. He handled “Today” and helped start “Dateline” while he was living in New York.
