Don Browne: Former NBC Executive and Telemundo President dead at 80

Don Browne, a former executive for NBC News and Telemundo, passed away this morning after a battle with a brain tumor.
After serving for six years as Telemundo’s president and its chief operating officer before that, Browne left NBCUniversal in June 2011 to pursue other interests.

After spending more than a decade with CBS News, he began working for NBCU in 1979 as the director of the Miami office for NBC News. He remained with the organization for more than 30 years.

Browne was appointed executive news director in 1989, serving as the executive in charge of NBC’s Today program. In 1991, he was promoted executive vice president of NBC News. He directed Dateline’s development while he was employed by NBC News.

Before switching to NBC in 1979 and working there for more than 30 years, Browne started his career at CBS News.
