Don Browne, a former president of Telemundo Network and general manager of WTVJ, died at the age of 80.

Browne, who was raised in Toms River, New Jersey, began his search for truthful reporting and storytelling while studying on a football scholarship at the University of South Carolina.

Among many other historic events, Browne oversaw NBC News’ coverage of the Nicaragua/Contra Revolution, natural disasters, the Challenger Space Shuttle Explosion, and the collapse of the Berlin Wall.

His dedication, passion, and work ethic propelled him to the top of the NBC executive structure.

Browne was appointed General Manager of WTVJ in Miami while promoting the careers of others and pressuring NBC News to hire more women and people of color.

Don Browne, a former executive for NBC News and Telemundo, passed away as a result of complications from a brain tumor. He started working for NBC News as an executive in 1989, first on the Today program and later as an executive vice president of NBC News. Before taking over as president and general manager of Telemundo in 2005, he was later named president and general manager of Miami’s NBC station, WTVJ. 2011 saw his retirement.
