Former Auditor-General Daniel Yao Domelevo and anti-graft campaigner Martin Kpebu have filed a petition to Parliament seeking a bipartisan investigation into the conduct of the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) concerning the money found in the residence of former Sanitation Minister Cecilia Dapaah.

The petition, submitted on May 16, 2024, includes signatures from security analyst Dr. Adam Bonaa, academic Professor Ransford Gyampo, and over 100 other Ghanaians.
They argue that EOCO should have investigated Cecilia Dapaah for money laundering due to her inability to explain the source of the large sum of money seized by the Special Prosecutor.
“The failure to explain the source of the money should have been the cornerstone of the investigation,” the petition states.

The group also criticized EOCO for not protecting the seized money, as the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) had planned to return it to Cecilia Dapaah.
“Upon receipt of the docket, EOCO did not act timeously to seize the money that the OSP was returning to Madam Cecilia Dapaah, as publicly stated by the OSP,” they said.
Additionally, the petition highlights EOCO’s inconsistent public statements and actions regarding the investigation.
This development follows a standoff between state anti-corruption agencies over the investigation into Cecilia Dapaah’s stash of money. The OSP has accused EOCO of lacking the commitment to properly investigate the matter despite having detailed information.
