Neuralink is a company that is developing implantable brain-computer interfaces (BCIs) that can potentially restore autonomy to people with unmet medical needs and unlock human potential.

One of the questions that many people have about Neuralink is whether it needs a battery or has a battery. According to the company’s website, the Neuralink implant is powered by a small battery that can be charged wirelessly from the outside via a compact, inductive charger that enables easy use from anywhere.

The battery is part of the implant’s chips and electronics, which are housed in a small device behind the ear. The device communicates wirelessly with a computer or mobile device that the user can control with their thoughts.

The battery is designed to last for a long time and provide enough power for the implant’s functions, such as recording and transmitting neural signals from thousands of electrodes that are inserted into the brain by a surgical robot. The battery is also one of the challenges that Neuralink faces in developing its BCI technology, as it has to be safe, reliable, and efficient.

The FDA had previously rejected a 2022 application to pursue human clinical trials citing “major safety concerns involving the device’s lithium battery; the potential for the implant’s tiny wires to migrate to other areas of the brain; and questions over whether and how the device could be removed if needed.”
