In This Is Us, Kate is still very much alive, following the encounter at the coffee shop in which Toby and Laura exchange parfait cracks and eventually become an item.

The family drama is scheduled to launch it’s series finale on May 24, 2022.
The series portrays from the angle of different time frames, the family lives of two parents, and their three children (a set of twins and one adopted).
Jack and Rebecca adopted Randall because they believe they were supposed to have 3 children. It happened that they initially had a set of triplets, out of which only two (Kevin and Kate) survived. And even at that, they were born six weeks premature on Jack’s 36th birthday.
Randall, before adoption into the family, was abandoned at a fire station by his biological father, William Hill.

Jack dies when his twins clocked 17, and Rebecca ends up marrying Jack’s best friend, Miguel.
Kate meets Toby, falls in love with him and they get married.
Kate lives in Los Angeles; Randall and his family are in New Jersey and Kevin relocates from Los Angeles to New York City with briefly returns to western Pennsylvania later on.
