Does Evgeny Kuznetsov have a brother?

Evgeny Kuznetsov is a Russian professional ice hockey forward for the National Hockey League’s Washington Capitals (NHL).

Evgeny Kuznetsov had an older brother, Alexander, who was tragically killed when a May Day celebration turned violent in 2003. Evgeny was 10 years old and has few memories of his brother.

In an interview with Sports Illustrated, Evgeny Kuznetsov shared his thoughts. “I was young, you know?” Kuznetsov says. “Not even pay attention to that. I was just at the hockey rink playing hockey.”

“That’s all I did that time. I don’t know if I could handle it right now at my age.” Kuznetsov does not remember “a lot” about Alexander. But he shared a memory when asked: “Couple of times when our parents go somewhere, we sit in the chairs at home and smoke cigarettes.”

Evgeny Kuznetsov was drafted in the first round (26th overall) by the Capitals in 2010. Kuznetsov led the Capitals to the Stanley Cup in 2018, scoring 32 points in the playoffs, the most by any player in a single postseason since Evgeni Malkin in 2009.
