Does Charles Dunstone still own Carphone Warehouse? – Charles Dunstone sold his final shares in Dixons Carphone in May 2021, seven years after acquiring a £400 million stake. According to those close to the company, Dunstone’s original 11.75% share in the combined entity plummeted below 1% by 2021.

Dunstone, who assisted in the £1.1 billion takeover of TalkTalk Telecoms Group, co-founded Carphone Warehouse in 1989 before floating it on the London stock exchange in 2000.
Dunstone employed the controversial ex-convict Ernest Saunders as a business consultant for Carphone Warehouse prior to its flotation.
In 2013, he pulled off a big coup by purchasing a 50% stake in a joint venture he had formed with BestBuy of the United States for less than half the price it had spent five years earlier.

Sir Dunstone agreed to merge with Dixons in 2014 to form a digital retailing behemoth, but the £3.8 billion merger fell short of expectations among investors and analysts.
Dunstone, who was born on November 21, 1964, began selling mobile phones from his flat on Marylebone Road in 1989.
He was 25 years old and had saved £6,000 to start his business, having previously worked as a sales professional at NEC.
He first noticed the potential of mobile phones and the future of mobile communications while working at NEC.
At the time, phones were bulky and cumbersome and were mostly purchased by major corporations and organizations. Corporate clients were well served, but small firms, self-employed individuals, and the general public had nowhere to turn.
Dunstone anticipated that mobile phones would become widespread and named his company The Carphone Warehouse (CPW) to cater to this broader market.
