Huntington’s disease (HD) is an inherited disorder in which nerve cells in various parts of the brain gradually degrade and die. It deteriorates people’s physical and mental abilities, usually during their prime working years and there is no cure.
Joe Smith’s mother was diagnosed with Huntington’s disease in 2012; the condition causes nerve cells in the brain to die. Joe Smith also witnessed his grandmother’s struggle and eventual death from Huntington’s disease.
