Andre Agassi is an outstanding American former world No. 1 tennis player.

Andre Kirk Agassi, known by the nickname “The Punisher”, was born on April 29, 1970, in Las Vegas, Nevada, the United States to his parents Emmanuel “Mike” Agassi and Elizabeth “Betty” Agassi Dudley. His father Emmanuel  Agassi is a former Olympic boxer from Iran.

Andre Agassi is of Armenian and Assyrian heritage from his father’s side. He was raised alongside three older siblings including Rita, Philip and Tami. He turned professional at the age of 16 and competed in his first tournament at La Quinta, California.

Andre Agassi is an eight-time major champion and an Olympic gold medalist. He is also a runner-up in seven other majors. He is the second of five men to achieve the career Grand Slam in the Open Era as well as the first of two men to achieve the career Golden Slam (career Grand Slam and Olympic gold medal).

Andre Agassi is the only man to win a career Super Slam (career Grand Slam, plus the Olympic gold medal and the year-end championships). He made history as the first man to win all four singles majors on three different surfaces (hard, clay and grass). He is the winner of 17 Masters’s titles.

Andre Agassi retired from professional tennis on September 3, 2006, after suffering from sciatica, a spondylolisthesis (vertebral displacement) and a bone spur troubling his nerve. He is the founder of the Andre Agassi Charitable Foundation and has been married to fellow tennis player Steffi Graf since 2001.
