DJ Casper, born Willie Perry Jr., was a legendary songwriter and DJ. The late celebrity was nicknamed “Casper” because he was regularly seen on stage wearing pure white.
He stated in 2016 that he had been diagnosed with kidney and liver cancer, and he died from the condition on August 7, 2023. Perry earlier told ABC7 that he was unable to eat and was losing a lot of weight.

DJ Casper invented the infamous Cha Cha Slide, which became one of the most popular line dances in history.

It was released in August 2000 and stayed on the Billboard Hot 100 list for five weeks. It remained a global smash for four years, topping the UK Singles Chart in March 2004.

Perry Jr. was diagnosed with kidney cancer and neuroendocrine cancer in January 2016. He started chemotherapy the next month after an unsuccessful surgery. In a July 2018 interview, he announced that he was in remission. Perry announced in 2019 that he has beaten his liver and kidney malignancies and that he is a changed man, claiming that “that was God’s way of just slowing me down just a little bit.”

Perry Jr. died on August 6, 2023, at the age of 58, from renal and liver cancer.
