Didi Bertrand: Who Is Paul Farmer’s Wife?

Paul Edward Farmer was an American medical anthropologist and physician.

Farmer held an MD and PhD from Harvard University, where he was the Kolokotrones University Professor and the chair of the Department of Global Health and Social Medicine at Harvard Medical School.

He was the co-founder and chief strategist of Partners In Health (PIH), an international non-profit organization that since 1987 has provided direct health care services and undertaken research and advocacy activities on behalf of those who are sick and living in poverty.

Paul Farmer died in his sleep in Kigali, Rwanda, on February 21, 2022, at the age of 62.

She is a medical anthropologist and community health specialist who has worked in Rwanda since 2005.

Born in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, Didi Farmer studied social science, community health, and health systems management in Haiti and France.

she served as the Director of the Community Health Program for Partners In Health Rwanda and Inshuti Mu Buzima from 2006 to 2012, and from 2012 to present she is the Senior Advisor on Community Health and Head of the Biosocial Research and Social Development Programs for Partners In Health.

Didi is the Co-Founder and President of the Women and Girls Initiative in both Rwanda and Haiti. Her recent work focuses on empowering girls and young women in Haiti and Rwanda.

Didi and Paul married in 1996.

The couple has three children, Sebastian Farmer, Elizabeth Farmer and Catherine Farmer.
