Francis DeSales Ouimet was an amateur golfer in the United States who is sometimes referred to as the “Father of Amateur Golf.”
He became the first non-British Captain of the Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St Andrews after winning the US Open in 1913. In 1974, he was inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame.
Ouimet was a two-time winner of the US Amateur Championship (1914 and 1931). He was a member of the first eight Walker Cup teams and captain of the next four, leading his side to an 11-1 record.

Ouimet has been inducted into numerous golf halls of fame, and the USGA Museum has a chamber dedicated to him.
