Meredith Ann Baxter was born on June 21, 1947, in South Pasadena, California, the United States to parents Whitney Blake, and Tom Baxter. Her mother is an actress, director and producer while her father Tom worked as a radio announcer.

Meredith Baxter’s parents got divorced in 1953. She has two brothers, Richard (born 1944) and Brian (born 1946). Baxter schooled at James Monroe High School before transferring to Hollywood High School. She later attended Interlochen Center for the Arts but graduated from Hollywood High in 1965.

Meredith Baxter made her television debut in 1972 on the CBS television network situation comedy. She is a five-time Emmy Award nominee. She has been married four times and has five children including Mollie Birney, Eva Bush, Kate Birney, Ted Bush, and Peter Birney.
