Lithgow made his film debut in 1972 in Dealing: Or the Berkeley-to-Boston Forty-Brick Lost-Bag Blues and four years later, he starred in a pivotal role in Brian De Palma’s Obsession with Cliff Robertson and Genevieve Bujold as Cliff Robertson’s long time business partner Robert Lasalle.
