Gerry McNamara is a former basketball player from the United States who is now an assistant coach for the Syracuse University men’s basketball team.

Gerry McNamara never played in the NBA. However, He was a former guard for the Syracuse University men’s basketball team.

In 2003, McNamara helped Syracuse win its first National Basketball Championship. In his freshman year, McNamara started every game and helped the Orange to a 30-5 record, including a perfect 17-0 at home.

He averaged 13 points, 4.6 assists, and 2.2 steals per game while shooting 35% from three and 91% from the foul line.

In 2005, he briefly represented the United States in an international competition, winning a Gold Medal at the Summer Universiade. McNamara was the first overall pick in the 2006 NBA draught, but he did not sign and went undrafted.

On September 4, 2006, he signed a one-year contract with Olympiacos BC, but only for Euroleague games in 2006-07.

Gerry McNamara played professionally for Panionios BC, Olympiacos BC, the Bakersfield Jam, BK Ventspils, and the Reno Bighorns after graduating from Syracuse.

Gerry McNamara announced his retirement from playing in 2009 and returned to Syracuse as a graduate student and assistant coach.
