The Prince of Wales brooch is an iconic piece of jewellery that was originally made for Edward VII, the Prince of Wales, in the early 20th century.

Following the death of Wallis, Duchess of Windsor,  Elizabeth Taylor purchased the Prince of Wales brooch at a Sotheby’s auction for more than $623,000. The Duke and Duchess were friends of Elizabeth and Richard Burton, and she frequently admired the brooch during her visits.

Elizabeth intended to bid on the brooch when it went up for auction for sentimental reasons because Richard Burton was born in Wales. The brooch is said to be the first significant piece of jewellery she ever purchased for herself.
