Slovenian Cup champion Aron Baynes almost got paralyzed after he sustained a neck injury that affected his spinal cord.

He had been hospitalized for weeks and couldn’t stand on his own.

“The loneliest time in my life was laying in that hospital, going in and out of consciousness, going over my life plan and my goals and just crying,” Baynes had said after recovering.

Who Is Aron Baynes?

Aron John Baynes is a basketball player who plays as a centre for the Brisbane Bullets of the National Basketball League (NBL).

Born on December 9, 1986, in New Zealand, Baynes played college basketball for Washington State University from 2005 to 2009.

After going undrafted in 2009, Baynes played for Lietuvos rytas of the Lithuanian Basketball League, for one season.

Afterwards, he played for Oldenburg, Ikaros, Olimpija, San Antonio Spurs, Austin Toros, Detroit Pistons, Boston Celtics, Phoenix Suns, and the Toronto Raptors.

When he played with the San Antonio Spurs, he won an NBA championship.

In 2022, Baynes joined the Brisbane Bullets on a two-year contract, after recovering from a spinal cord injury during the Tokyo Olympics.

On the international front, Baynes has represented the Australian national team, the Boomers, at different tournaments including the FIBA World Championship, and the Summer Olympics.
