Anna May Wong was an American actress who was widely regarded as the first Chinese American Hollywood movie star and the first Chinese-American actress to achieve international acclaim.

During her four-decade film career, Wong never won an Oscar. Her diverse career included work in silent film, sound film, television, stage, and radio.
Wong appeared in several low-budget films that helped her achieve her goal of portraying Asian Americans in sympathetic and non-stereotypical roles, including the Daughter of Shanghai (1937).
She contributed to and raised funds for United China Relief and made public appearances in support of China’s fight against Japan.

Wong appeared in The Gallery of Madame Lui-Tsong, the first television show with an Asian-American lead, in 1951.
Following its completion, Wong experienced health problems that led to her death at the age of 56 on February 3, 1961.
Although Wong did not receive the Academy Award, her dedication to improving Asian American representation in Hollywood was its success.
