Did Ange Postecoglou play football? He did, in fact, play football.
Postecoglou began playing football at the age of nine when he joined South Melbourne Hellas.
He progressed through the youth systems to play 193 games for them in the National Soccer League as a one-club player from 1984 to 1993.

As a player, he was a member of their 1984 and 1990-91 championship teams, the latter as captain in a historic victory against rivals Melbourne Knights.
Postecoglou was trained by Ferenc Puskás of Hungary, a legendary player whom his father had told him about when he was a child.
Puskás used a 4-3-3 structure with inflexible full-backs and offensive wingers, according to Postecoglou. Postecoglou’s coaching builds on this technique, however, his usage of attacking fullbacks in a non-traditional inverted position differs from Puskás’.
Unfortunately, Postecoglou’s career was cut short due to a knee injury.
