His death, along with two others from his ministry, was the second disaster to strike Ukraine in four days, following a Russian missile strike on an apartment building that killed dozens of civilians.

There was no word on whether the crash, which occurred near a kindergarten, was an accident or related to the war. There has been no recent fighting in the Kyiv area.

Zelenskyy extended his condolences to the families and friends of those who were lost, calling Monastyrsky and other officials who were aboard the helicopter true patriots of Ukraine.
