Denver High School shooting: Two deans injured in shooting at East High School

According to authorities, a student at Denver’s East High School shot and wounded two administrators Wednesday, March 222 2023, while the teen was conducting a required daily search for weapons, then fled the building.

The gun that was used in the shooting was not immediately recovered. One of the wounded administrators was released from the hospital Wednesday, March 22 2023,  afternoon and the second remains in serious condition, said Heather Burke, a spokesperson for Denver Health hospital.

Austin Lyle, 17, was identified as the suspect by Denver police and was wanted on suspicion of attempted homicide.

Lyle’s vehicle was discovered in Park County shortly before 4:30 p.m., according to police. Park County Sheriff Tom McGraw said a body was discovered about 2/10th of a mile from the vehicle around 8:15 p.m.  The Park County coroner’s office is investigating the cause of death.

Following the shooting on Wednesday, two armed officers will be stationed at East High School until the end of the school year, and other city high schools will also receive an officer, according to Denver Public Schools Superintendent Alex Marrero.
