D. J. Reed is a cornerback who competes for the New York Jets in the NFL. The San Francisco 49ers selected him from Kansas State, where he played college football, in the fifth round of the 2018 NFL Draft. Independence High School in Bakersfield, California is where Reed studied. In addition to participating in both sports, he was the only athlete in school history to receive MVP awards in both basketball and football. Reed became a member of the Fresno State football squad.

San Francisco 49ers picked Reed in the fifth round (142nd overall) of the 2018 NFL Draft. Reed took the 49ers to Super Bowl LIV in his second season, where they lost to the Kansas City Chiefs 31-20. He was added to the active/non-football injury list on July 28, 2020, the first day of training camp.

Dennis Reed Sr., the father of D.J. Reed, had passed away in Waterloo, Iowa, earlier in the day after an 18-year fight with multiple sclerosis. He was 61. Last Wednesday, when he was informed that his father had been taken off of life support, D.J. knew things were not looking good. However, he didn’t find out that his father had passed away until a few minutes before kickoff. He went from being excited to being devastated in an instance.
