Transitioning to collegiate hockey, Gilbert continued to make his family proud by playing for the Notre Dame Fighting Irish at the University of Notre Dame. Originally a member of Hockey East, Gilbert’s collegiate career reached its culmination after his junior season with the Fighting Irish in the 2017–18 season.
