Dennis East Obituary, Funeral

Dennis East, a South African music legend has died. He died on Monday 12 September after he suffered a stroke on Friday 9 September.

His death was confirmed by the South African Legends Museum. Dennis performed with The Rising Sons in the 1970s, and formed the rock band Stingray with other South African musicians in 1979.

He is best known for his singles Could You Ever Love Me Again, Peace Will Be Mine, Talking In Your Sleep and Red Hot Lover.

In addition to his work as a songwriter, Dennis also produced musical albums for South African artists as well as British saxophonist Andrew Young.

His first single “Could you ever love me again” was released in 1973 but he achieved his first chart success a year laterm in 1974 with “A rose has to die”.

In 1978, he formed the group “Stringray” and once again made the charts with “Better the devil you know”.

He also participated in television programmes such as Pump Up The Volume, Coca Cola Pop Stars and Popstars 2010.

Details of his funeral are yet to be made public.
