“It’s been a heartbreaking journey,” Roger told Haysom and Jackson in 2020. “I mean, she’s still Deb. Still wonderful, loving, gorgeous. But she’s not the real Deb and she’s not with us anymore. And that’s breaking all our hearts.”
In June 2022, Hope was appointed as a member of the Order of Canada for her contributions to journalism as a reporter and anchor “and for her tireless involvement as a volunteer.”
Condolences poured in for Hope on social media from former colleagues, who described her as a talented professional and inspiring mentor, as well as people she had interviewed, who remembered her warm personality and genuine interest in their stories.
