Dean Woods Cause Of Death: What Happened To Dean Woods?

Tributes are pouring in for Olympic gold medalist cyclist Dean Woods OAM, who died at the age of 55 following a cancer struggle.

Woods, from Wangaratta in Victoria’s northeast, was a member of the four-man 4000m team pursuit team in the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics, together with Michael Grenda, Kevin Nichols, and Michael Turtur.

Woods went on to win three more medals in his career, including silver in the solo pursuit and bronze in the team pursuit in Seoul in 1988, as well as bronze in Atlanta in 1996.

Woods also won three gold medals at the Commonwealth Games, was a three-time world champion, and competed in the Tour of Spain (Vuelta a Espana) thrice, in addition to 20 national titles.

“He pushed the idea of elite training to a new level with coach Charlie Walsh,” Sport Australia Hall of Fame chair John Bertrand AO said.

“There was no ‘playbook,’ and there was minimal financial support in his day.” Everything has to be created.
