In Billy Elliot the Musical, Chapman was cast as “Small Boy” when he was eight years old. He would subsequently advance to the roles of Michael and then the title character, becoming the show’s second longest-serving cast member.

After leaving Billy Elliot, Chapman was cast in the lead part of the CBBC comedy The Revolting World of Stanley Brown alongside future Game of Thrones and Blinded by the Light co-star Nell Williams.

Dean-Charles Chapman was chosen to play one of the two roles in the Sam Mendes-directed war movie 1917, together with George MacKay, in 2019. The movie went on to get 10 Academy Award nominations, winning three.
