Norwich dismissed manager David Wagner less than 24 hours after their promotion dreams were shattered. The Canaries drew the first leg of their play-off semi-final 0-0 against Leeds at home but fell to an embarrassing 4-0 defeat at Elland Road on Thursday night.

The club has now acted swiftly in the wake of the loss by parting ways with Wagner after 18 months in charge. The ex-Huddersfield boss recovered from a sluggish start to the season to lead his side to a top-six finish but has now paid for their poor performance there with his job.

Wagner took over at Norwich in January 2023, with his first game in charge a 4-0 win at Preston North End. He previously won promotion with Huddersfield Town and he guided Norwich to sixth spot in his first full season but will not get another opportunity to achieve promotion – with reports Arsenal coach Carlos Cuesta is viewed as a potential replacement.
