Born on March 7, 1956, David Koch was trained as an accountant and started as a cadet on the business pages of The Australian newspaper before joining BRW Magazine in the early 1980s.

He launched Personal Investment magazines in New Zealand and the UK and produced Britain’s first “rich list” which started in Money Magazine which he had bought for Fairfax in the ’80s.

Koch also launched Pinstripe Media in 2007, KBB Digital in 2013, and Ausbiz in 2020 in partnership with Kylie Merrit.

He joined Sunrise as a co-host in 2002 along with Natalie Barr on weekdays. He was initially hired to replace Chris Reason who stepped down after a cancer diagnosis at the end of 2002. His position became permanent, and he and the original host Melissa Doyle hosted the program over a period till Sunrise became the leading breakfast show in Australia.

Koch announced his departure from the program on May 28, 2023, after spending 21 years with the Seven Network’s program. He is Australia’s longest-serving breakfast television show host, having broadcast over 16,000 hours of live TV across 5,3000 shows and also conducted 50,000 interviews. His last broadcast on the program is set to take place on June 9, 2023.

Aside from his position as Sunrise host, he is also a co-host of Where Are They Now? which is also on Seven Network production. He also hosts a show for small businesses Kochie’s Business Builders, which airs on Sundays.

Koch has also co-hosted Seven Network’s Christmas TV special Carols in the Domain eight (8) times in a roll; from 2014 to 2022.
