English author and theater director David Benedictus (September 16, 1938 – October 10, 2023) is well known for his novels. Return to the Hundred Acre Wood, a Winnie-the-Pooh novel, was one of his works. It was the first book of its kind in 81 years.

In the past, Benedictus authored and created audio versions of the Winnie the Pooh stories, starring Judi Dench as Kanga and Geoffrey Palmer as Eeyore. It took more than eight years for the A. A. Milne estate trustees to authorize the project after he provided them two samples of his sequel.

Benedictus, according to Michael Brown, chairman of the Pooh Properties Trust, had a “wonderful feel” for the Pooh universe. Publishers Weekly, on the other hand, had mixed feelings about the book, calling it “largely forgettable” and lacking “the charm of the first book.”
