Dave Herman was an American professional football player who played offensive guard in the American Football League (AFL) and National Football League (NFL) for ten seasons (NFL).

Herman was born on September 3, 1941, in Bryan, Ohio. He grew up on a chicken farm in nearby Edon, Ohio, and went to Edon High School. He then went to Michigan State University and played football for the Spartans.
Herman was drafted by the Jets out of Michigan State in 1963 and made his debut in 1964. His job became even more important in 1965 when New York selected Namath, the star quarterback from Alabama who would become the AFL’s face.

Herman, one of the game’s best linemen, was named to the All-AFL teams from 1967 to 1969 and was an AFL All-Star from 1968 to 1969.
Herman worked as an account executive for Blair Television Company after retiring from professional football.
Dave Herman died on Wednesday, October 19, 2022, at the age of 81. Herman was diagnosed with chronic traumatic encephalopathy in 2014. He is survived by his wife, Roma, four children, four siblings and five grandchildren.
