Darrell Brooks: Christmas Parade Attacker Sentenced to life in Prison

Darrell Brooks was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole on Wednesday, November 18 2022,  for crashing his SUV into a crowd of Christmas parade goers in Waukesha, Wisconsin, last year, killing six and injuring dozens.

A jury found Brooks, 40, guilty on all 76 counts stemming from the attack including six counts of first-degree intentional homicide with the use of a dangerous weapon in a clean sweep for the prosecution.

After hearing from victims and family members for two days, Judge Jennifer Dorow imposed the mandatory sentence, ordering Brooks to serve a life sentence without the possibility of parole for each of the first-degree homicide counts.

While Brooks’ family members raised concerns about his mental health during the hearing, the judge stated that mental health issues did not cause him to drive into a crowd.

Judge Jennifer Dorow stated that Brooks understood the difference between right and wrong based on four mental health evaluations. She claims he has no remorse or empathy for anyone.

Darrell Brooks was sentenced to 76212 years in prison for reckless endangerment, plus three years for two bail-jumping convictions and nine months for domestic battery.

Judge Jennifer Dorow claims that a lengthy prison sentence is necessary to keep the community safe. Anything less would “unduly diminish the gravity of these offences,” she said.
