Dimebag Darrell, a young guitarist, was performing with his band, ‘Damageplan,’ which he founded with his brother Vinnie Paul, at Columbus, Ohio’s Alrosa Villa bar. A crazed young fan named Nathan Gale shot Darrell multiple times during the show. He was pronounced dead at the spot, unfortunately.

The famed guitarist’s action also brought to mind another rumour regarding Darrell’s death, which stated that he honoured Van Halen by whispering the band’s name as his final words.
“Van Halen” was something Dime would say to his brother Vinnie before a live performance to inspire them both to play a fun, lively, rocking show
Damageplan was two concerts away from wrapping up a tour in support of their debut album, New Found Power, at the time of the tragedy, and Dime and his brother drummer Vinnie Paul were looking forward to celebrating the holidays and then getting back into the studio to work on a follow-up record.
