James Dansby Swanson is a free-agency American professional baseball shortstop. He has played in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the Atlanta Braves. The Arizona Diamondbacks chose him first overall in the 2015 MLB Draft.

Swanson grew up in Kennesaw, Georgia, to two prominent Troy University college athletes.
Swanson launched his 100th career home run off New York Mets pitcher Jacob deGrom on September 30, 2022.
Swanson was the only pitcher in Major League Baseball to start all 162 games this season. Swanson received his first Gold Glove Award after the season. He became a free agent at the end of the season.

Swanson was the No. 1 overall pick in the 2015 MLB draft by the Arizona Diamondbacks but was traded to Atlanta later that year in a five-player swap that sent pitcher Shelby Miller to Arizona.
